I think this process has already started,  to some extent,  though it's
gonna be a long slow one.  Even now,  some of the video cards are releasing
drivers but they're closed-source,  and it's only a matter of time before
somebody hacks those and puts the info out there.  I mean heck,  we have
whole *countries* (their governments at least) switching to linux...

I'm definitely of the "fix it if it's practical" school of
thought as well, and it sure seems like the whole economy is geared toward
tossing it and buying new,  instead.  It's a losing battle,  but I'm going
to continue to deal with things that way as long as I can manage to do
so...
