John, "Red Lored" is sometimes used as an alternate name for the little
Lilac Crowned Amazon isn't it? (Finsch's Amazon [Amazona finschi])
If so this is my favorite Amazon of all and yours sounds a lot like
mine.
-> I've tried everything short of a continuous loop tape. He gets
-> off on television shows with violence, also gets very vocal when I
-> play an opera.
We gave ours a transistor radio set to a "talk Radio" station, but he
learned the theme music instead of any discernable words.... BUT, like
yours he went APE over football games on TV and particularly band music!
His cheery personality was so appealing though that we never missed any
ability to talk. He could talk a streak in Spanish, and did say a few
words in English occasionally, but like you said was mostly a mimicer.
-> years ago I was told that the breed is not noted for talking,
-> but that it might learn a few words as time passed.
It's my personal opinion based on what I saw from my Lilac Crown, that
they learn to talk (If they're going to) at a very early age. Ours was
a very OLD parrot and had obviously learned a lot before he came to live
with us. He learned few if any NEW words with us, but learned lots of
new _sounds._
Tell me more about yours. I'm a great fan of the Finsch's parrot.
