Can anyone tell me what approach I must take to GET the data from an object necessary to recreate it with WinCreateObject & WinSetObjectData? What I really want to do is build a small utility that can recreate objects from one desktop to another, as well as let me dump the object data to a file. I am frustrated by the inability to copy folders and their contents from my main desktop to my "maintenance / experimental" partition's desktop. I don't want to save and restore the desktop, just copy folders and contents. Using XCOPY seems to loose objects when doing this type of splicing. I have tried the infamous "HOTSERV" switches with this as well. Something isn't getting copied. The only objects that get copied are sub fodlers. The EA's are supposed to be copied as well, so where are the object's data hiding? So, I thought that this would make a good mini project for me and get me to explore new areas of the PM API. It is easy enough to create objects and set their "setup" items, but there is n clue as to how one would "read" the same data OUT of an object. I have looked a the wp and wpcls functions, but it appears that they are only available to SOM objects, if not I sure can't see how to use them from an app. I do not have any good books on the subject, but I am very good at taking a few examples or hints and finding what I need from the toolkit references and mixin it all with lots of experimentation under the debugger. Thanks in advance to any who are able to help out...
