BJ> 2400 RPI? THAT would be a great trick.
It's for real, and I still have it. It's an internal unit, 2400bps (RPI)
data, 9600bps fax. It worked well with the bundled COMit Lite, but slowed
down considerably with every non-RPI comm program I tried. I used it for
several months, before upgrading to a V.32bis USR Sportster.
Today, of course, the situation is reversed -- current Zoom modems seem to
be pleasantly "unsurprising", while USR's Sportster V.34 models have had
some embarrassing firmware problems...and then, there's the Sportster
Winmodem, which has further damaged the Sportster line's reputation by its
very inclusion. (I have nothing against the Winmodem for those who
understand what it can and cannot do -- but it should never have been called
a _Sportster_ Winmodem!)
