Hello Roy -

->>> Nope. Never even saw one. There was some discussion about
->>> cleaning CD burner 'optics' in the W95 echo and, as I
->>> recall it, the consensus was that the cleaning disk was a
->>> scam. It would never touch the 'optics' since they don't
->>> drag on the CD nor would they drag on the surface of a
->>> 'cleaner' disk.

TW>> The ones I have seen, while of doubtfull value, had a
TW>> small soft brush inbedded in the Cleaning Disk and a
TW>> program on the CD to move the Laser lens over it. The soft
TW>> brush stuck up enough the "Brush" across the lens.

CA>> I have to agree with "of doubtful value". Disassembly and
CA>> careful cleaning would be more likely here but even then I
CA>> suspect the burner is just wearing out.

RJT> This makes me wonder what's to wear out in one of those?

My first guess would be spindle bearings since that's in
constant use and a mechanical device. My next guess would be
that the LED used to power the laser begins to 'wear out'
whatever that would mean for an LED?

I'm getting messages from NERO something about not powering up
correctly (forget the exact message right now) which makes me
think the laser needs more power than the circuits were
designed to supply. It's going "out of tolerance" in other
words.
