but the reality is a craving for power over others.
At heart they believe the individual is ignorant, unable to reach a
balanced judgment. For some unclear reason they are superior and are
able to judge. Thus they must do it for us all, limit our freedom, make
our choices, in our name. From whence derives their authority? No one
says. Where will it end? They offfer silence. There is always a new
loose end to tidy up.
But have we not in this country learned the human cost of the collective
dictatorship? Those who ban words today, ban ideas tomorrow and ban
people the day after.
That is why the argument is not about products, or about risk or about
health - but about a state of mind. It is the motivation, not the
regulations, that really matter. It is about the cyclical phenomenon of
social Puritanism and the rise of the New Unhappy Puritans. Zealous,
threatening and advancing; we ignore them at our peril.
