Lynda, I had the tree monkies dump their loads of wood chips here and I 
just left them for nature to handle.  This is normally called 
procrastination as I actually was going to mulch around my plants with 
them.  After about three years, I bit the bullet and and dug into the 
best pile of humus I ever found.  Beats the soil conditioners found at 
garden centers.  I make it a point to keep an ongoing pile of rotting 
wood chips present all all times now.  Mix it with river bottom sand, 
lime, 10-10-10 fertilizer, and topsoil and you have a medium that will 
grow warts if you plant them right .  Good Luck as you get dirt 
unner your fingernails!
