Speaking of Troopers....
I had an encounter with a Florida State Trooper last night. Coming out
of Pensacola Florida, crossing the Pensacola Bay bridge on Interstate
10, a tire blew on my utility trailer. No handling problems at all, but
by the time I got across the bridge, across two lanes of traffic and
stopped, I'd dragged that flat piece of rubber over a mile... not much
left of it.
Got the wheel off and was about to pull back into traffic to go and
search for a replacement (no spare on the trailer... two hundred miles
from home) when blue lights pulled in behind me.
Once he determined what my situation was, he got on his personal cell
phone and called until he found me a tire (this is 8:00 PM on SUNDAY
night folks), and someone to change it... he had a buddy that owned a
service station, lived next door and was willing to open up and change
the tire. The Trooper did a close patrol on my trailer (and the $40,000+
worth of jewelry and equipment inside) for the two hours that it took me
to go buy the tire, find the station, and get it fixed.
Even though he had to leave the area a couple of times in the interim,
within a minute after I got back to the trailer, the Trooper was there
positioning his spot light so I could put the replacement tire back on.
I thought the man was actually gonna offer to put the lug nuts on for me
.
I didn't get his last name, but his first name was Ron... thats an easy
one for me to remember.... and one helluva a nice fellow.
If any of you are State boys in the Florida panhandle and know this man,
tell him that he has one very grateful fan in Alabama.
