TM>Er, that should be $d418, shouldn't it? ;)
Yeah yeah, always getting those mixed up (:
TM>Not true. Is you use the sustain nybble instead of the volume nybble
TM>you can achieve effective fade-outs.
Yeah, forgot about that. If you were desperate you could 'simulate' a fade
on routine by setting a long attack cycle. It's a pity the sustain level
isnt more flexible. I've found out through
experimentation that while a voice is on you can change the sustain level,
but only to a smaller value. Setting it to a higher value will cancel the
voice (as if you put a 0 in there).
Its a shame because otherwise you could use it as alternative way of
playing a sample. In fact you could have 3 4 bit samples at once, and
-still- be able to use $d418 (got it right (: ) as a normal volume
register. Bummer! (:
> If the sample player routine could 'read' the sid players registers,
^^^^^^^^^^^
TM>Difficult? How about *impossible*? The majority of SID registers are
TM>write only. A solution to this is to read this data out of the
TM>SID-player (most store it internally before putting it into the SID).
Tut tut, you should read my text more carefully (: That is what I meant.
TM>Basically you need a fully intergrated SID/Sample routine for it to
TM>work properly.
I know, that is the problem. Unless you could find out where different
types of sid-player keep their filter values, and change your routine to
match the particular player, you are stuck.
TM>Hmm, I connected up a seperate push button to mine, and I can just
TM>reset the drive without affecting the computer at all! I also have an
TM>NTSC/PAL switch, and some LED's signalling the status of the serial
TM>port.
Yep, one of my 1541's has its own reset button, device # switch plus led
to tell me what its doing. Hey call me sentimental for putting in the drive
reset mod, but my -old- 64 reset the drive, and it is just plain WIERD when
it doesnt happen. Couldnt stand it! (-:
TM>Hmm, I hesitate to put a date on that. Should be 1-2 months (Moonlight
TM>will be coming out tri-monthly, er, quarterly).
Yep, well, like I have said to TBH often about Epic, "I'll believe it
when I see it". (-:
TM>Halleluyah! He has seen the light! =)
Bugger off! (:
TM>Hmm, well I can give you some source to a few better routines than the
TM>R. Hubbard one... like JCH's, or DMC. I'll be writing one of my own one
TM>day (after the Mag, and everything else I'm supposed to do :)
Source? Gimme! (: Well if ya want you can write the SID side of my dual
channel digi player. Save me the hassle (: I think it will be first thing I
do after finishing the demo.. after some mucking around with that, on to
texture mapping, plus about a million & one other projects.. (-:
TM>At a guess you have the equivilant of "USENET" access,
which means no
TM>FTP or IRC :( I can get some info on various Internet feeds in NSW if
TM>you like...?
Yep, it's crappy old USENET access alright. I can send EMAIL to internet,
as well as recieve it. (actually try sending me some at
100240.156{at}COMPUSERVE.COM). FTP -is- possible, but only if you know the
exact site & filename, plus it is so bloody hard & expensive its
not worth it. (the way you get the file is by UUencoded Email!)
