I was taught to "bark" squirrels....shoot just short of them so that bark
would fly up and hit them as well as some of the energy. It worked pretty
good with my old 30-30 Winchester, but I haven't tried it with a real
rifle. My hunting buddy of olde, (since deceased) used to get lots of
squirrels that way. Very little meat loss.
