BH> I have a quick question regarding my TCP/IP LAN. My Warp 4.0
BH> system is connected through the internet through a 33.6k dialup (USR
BH> Sportster). What I've been trying to do is to setup my Warp 4.0
BH> system (AMD K5-PR133, 40M EDO) to be a router for my lan to give my
BH> other system access to the Internet also. access to the internet
BH> also. The other system is a WFWG 3.11 (AMD 5x86-133, 12M) and is
BH> connected to the WARP 4.0 using 10-base2 coax. Is it possible to
BH> use WARP 4.0 as a router to do this? I've tried third party
BH> software for this which worked but not how I wanted it to (Internet
BH> Gate). The third party software would not let my Warp 4.0 system
BH> have servers active. Also, what is the IP address convention for a
BH> private network? My current LAN IP address for my server is
BH> 192.168.69.10 (I heard the 192.168.*.* was for private networks).
BH> I am also using a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.224 (not sure about
BH> the subnet mask). If anyone could help me with this task, I would
BH> be in your debt forever. ;)
I found that InJoy worked like a charm in the Extended Edition ($35
reg.). It allows IP Masquerading and Dial on Demand. I just set the
machine with the modem to IP forwarding and play with the host names
settings in the TCP/IP setup. You might have some problem with servers
on other than the one machine; I haven't mucked with that yet altho the
FTP daemon works just fine. The catch I see is that InJoy re-assigns
the default route on every dialup connection so that may cause a
problem.
InJoy's high points: IP Masquerading so that all the machines can
share one modem and the ability to initiate a dial out connection
whenever any machine on the local network.
Private IP's are:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
I use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask - never bothered to figure out
the logic for my specific addresses and this will match any IP of
192.168.69.nnnn for you.
