Heh! Years ago, my father had a 4kw Jacobs-type wind generator. I
think it was made by Dakota. Had the habit of shucking a blade off
every now and then. Would go *way* up in the air, and come down like
a seven foot maple leaf. Scared the heck out of the neighbors, and did
little for my mother's peace of mind . He had all the output sent
to a couple of heating elements in the boiler. Cut his oil bills to
about a third. Still have the generator in the garage. Need to machine
up some new prop shafts for it out of a length of 316 stainless I found.
It's a "someday" project...
-> Heck, I've considered it for heating my machine shop even down here
-> in the "Broiler Belt."

-> With a big V-8 idling along pulling a generator, you could even hang
-> a couple of freon compressors on it and get some REAL Heat pump
-> efficiency. The break-point would be the availability of good cheap
-> natural gas for fuel! (Which I don't have, but many people DO.)
Around here, natural gas seems the cheapest of the three "normal"
types. Gas, #2 oil, or electricity... But, is is cheap enough to
work in a co-gen scheme? Not sure yet...
