CB> I downloaded Telemate for Windows 1.00 over the weekend so I've only
CB> used it a couple of days. I went back through the few days worth of
CB> back messages in the Telemate echo and I've got a few questions and my
CB> 2 cents.
CB> 1: How do I get rid of the file listed in the 'recent file list' in
CB> the FILE menu? It was of an old .gif that I had already looked at the
CB> day before and deleted but the entry was still there and nothing I did
CB> got rid of it. I finally had to edit the .ini to remove it.
That way is the only way to get rid of it, aside from opening 4 new
files to replace the recent file list. This is common to all FIle
menus in Windows.
CB> 2: The screen updating is incredibly SLOW. It does it 2 or even a
CB> dozen lines at a time. Very very distracting. None of the other
CB> Windows comm programs I've tried behave like that. The scrolling
CB> speed is okay, even on my slow video card. With some Win comm
CB> programs, it can't scroll fast enough to keep the screen in sync
CB> (because they smooth scroll), but TMW can.
A known problem with non accelerated bus systems.
CB> 3: A quick exit button in the HELP would be nice. Online help gets
CB> used quite a bit and a quick exit like most provide is a nice feature.
CB> I like the online help. It's a lot better than the dos version.
CB> Given the choice of only off line docs or online help, I'd choose
CB> on-line help because that's when you need it. I still wish there was
CB> off line docs though. I always tend to feel that I'm missing some neat
CB> feature. Like that pressing the right button will bring up a quick
CB> menu. I don't see that listed in the help anywhere. The online help
CB> could be a bit more complete, but it is certainly a vast improvment
CB> over TM4.12 Be nice if you gave all the options for the .ini
Amen and amen :)
CB> 4: The ANSI emulation doesn't blink characters. I'm on one board
CB> that uses blinking text to show what menu item is selected. But TMW
CB> doesn't blink.... Other Win comm programs manage to do it.
This too is a known problem with no known fix at this point.
CB> 5: I wish that when you tagged files that it also included the path.
CB> That way it would be easier to upload files from odd places. I tried
CB> to do that and I had it all set up tagged but when I tried to UL it, it
CB> couldn't find it because there wasn't any path info.
Under OPTIONS | PATH | SEND ... add multiple uplaod directories .. i.e.:
C:\send\;C:\mail\;D:\Zips
CB> 6: How the heck do I get rid of the scroll bars in the terminal?
CB> I've got my window maximized and set to 80x30 but there are horizontal
CB> and vertical scroll bars and there shouldn't be. 80x30 does fit. It
CB> fits fine in the terminal window before dialing. After connect it adds
CB> the scroll bars. I can change the terminal size and then change it
CB> back to 80x30 and the scroll bars disappear and the full 80x30 is
CB> visible. There is just something about dialing with that size that
CB> cuases it to add scroll bars even though it doesn't need it. If I get
CB> rid of the tool bar then scroll bars disappear, but... If I
CB> reduce it back to 25 it does okay, but WildCat 4.x has bugs in its file
CB> listings and will do 3 or 4 extra lines sometimes so I like setting my
CB> terminal to allow for that. And I need a full 80 accross because the
CB> BBS uses the full 80.
I think you answered your probem :)
CB> 7: Any plans to add fax sending?
CB> 8: The 'How Too...' in the help always comes up in the lower right
CB> corner. Seems to me that it should be centered a bit more. Or at
CB> least raised upwards.
CB> 9: Anyway to change the cursor from the vertical line to a more
CB> comfortable horizontal line?
CB> 10: The UL and DL speed seem to be a bit slower than usual (1570
CB> rather than 1640 under DOS), but that may just be Windows or maybe the
CB> board is just a bit slow the past few days. No errors though since I
CB> did remember to add the COM3FIFO=TRUE to my system.ini
This entry does nothing since it is enabled by Windows default
settings.
CB> 11: No GPF's, crashes, or other major bugs, although I see several
CB> messages about them.
CB> 12: I wish the GIF viewer handled color translation from 256 to 16
CB> better. I normally run Windows in 16 color because it's faster than
CB> 256 colors and my video card is slow. (It's an ISA, I don't have the
CB> $100 to get a VLB one.) And some of the gifs just don't look too good.
CB> I think the old GifLink used to handle them a bit better, although
CB> realistically, I know there is only so much that can be done.
CB> All in all, it looks very promising. I'm definitly interested in it.
CB> Especially for the price since Qmodem, Procom, etc. are all so much
CB> more expensive. And with Telemate, you get later versions (bug fixes
CB> and enhancements) for free. When I buy something I may not
CB> particularly care about getting future ones for free, but at the very
CB> least I do want major bug fixes for free.
