Hi Charles, r u doin ?
Charles Mielke et Eric De Wachter talking about "Garuda flight tape"
CM> ... we would usually say, "Roger, , confirm left
CM> turn the LONG way to heading whatever."
Good way to do it !
CM> Occasionally the controller would say something to the effect
CM> that what he said was what he really meant to say. The apparent
CM> wrong turn was for a tempo move, or for spacing, or for
 CM> positioning on an intercept.
U'r right !
But a spacing during T/O climb appears to be strange, no ?
CM> One of the problems with being a controller is that the
CM> radar scopes are all "North Up", and if you are going
CM> South, it gets confusing for the controller.
For the 2nd time, u'r right. It 's like when you drive a remote car or
acft.
CM> In my A-7, we could orient our PMDS (Projected Map Display
CM> System) to "North Up", if we were flying South, which made
CM> it much easier to read the filmstrip - it was also confusing,
CM> so I would activate the North Up switch just long enough to
CM> read the writing, then turn it back to the normal display.
In 737 it's the same. Normal use is on MAP position and not on PLAN.
CM> These controllers didn't want to take any chances of the
CM> passengers sighting us, as the passengers can sometimes get
CM> moderately upset upon seeing a fighter aircraft near them.
U know, i've never been intercepted (but i suppose i have to say, i've
never SEEN an intercerptor !)
If you come to Brussels, let me know !
With pleasure!
