What do you think of the bio-mass energy concept, not just hemp... I did a
research project on it in college, about 6 years ago, and am sure new
information has come out since then that I don't know about. To summarize, I
believed that bio-mass was a great replacement for fossil fuels and that hemp
was a strong runner up for best plant for it, behind sugar beets and the
grain families.
Has anybody been continuing the R&D on vegetable oil burning engines? I
remember Gatewood Galbraith, who ran for Gov. of Ky in the late 80's early
90's, campaigned across KY in a mercedes diesel that ran on hemp oil and was
called the "Hemp-mobile."
As I recall, hemp was not the winner as best of category in any of the
industrial uses but was so good in so many of them that it stood out above
the rest as an all around winner. Have any industrial advances been made
where hemp is strong again, such as yugoslavia (?) and china? The last big
breakthrough that I can think of was the Hemp-Break, to rend the fibers of
the stalks, and was one of the reasons the industrial giants pushed for it's
being restricted.
Cotton is a better fiber for clothes and paper but you can't eat it, corn is
great for eating and you can make fuel from it but it's bad on the soils,
trees are good for the soils and other industrial uses but take so long to
mature....
