Turns out that today is second day of a 2-day sale at Sears -
They have a digital multimeter for half price $10 vs. $20. If you can't
get out, they _may_ have it available on sale at sears website?

I got lucky - they were out of the sale model at the local Sears, so
they substituted another model so I got a $25 one for $10. This one
came with a separate AC voltage detector, which I've been wanting.
Those things are some kind of magic - - can detect if 125VAC is present
even when no current is flowing thru the conductors.
