Hi Bob. Remember that you-beaut auto-TIC-deleter you-beaut thingo?
Well, you may or may not be aware that I am starting to move towards Linux.
The three main things are:
1. Mailer.
2. Mailprocessor
3. Message reader.
For the message reader, I have already ported MSGED to Linux, although
there are a couple of annoying things with it. For the mailprocessor, I
have ported Tobruk to Linux, and there are some annoying things with that
too (basically I have to go to *.MSG instead of squish). The mailer is
TBD. The choices are either me making RSEND into a full-blown mailer, or
me getting BT302 to work. Today I succeeded in getting BT302 to work,
although I had no real data to test it out on. But it was certainly
communicating with the modem fine.
That's the important things. Then come the unimportant things. Like
files. Binkley supports FREQ, so that should probably work. Now what I
don't have is Yatic. Yatic takes in a .TIC file and adds the description
to FILES.BBS. It checks the password and area of course.
It is possible that I will simply go to Linux and not offer TIC facilities.
It is highly likely I will no longer have a BBS either, and just go
mail-only. Here's your big chance to protect your investment (in nullzero)
by replacing Yatic. Well, it's actually a bit more complex than that,
because I'll also lose my great-looking file-list capability, to be
replaced with a shoddy (equivalent of) dir c:\xyz\*.* etc, into one big
file. So not even nullzero will work. I don't know what time I will be
making the switch. I need some more mailprocessing capabilities first.
(Specifically, something with which to zip up outbound packets into the
correct binkley outbounds). BFN. Paul.
