->         Cound be !  I got off HP machines when the ink in one printer
->  was always drying up on me due to casual use. The Canon keeps on

 I volunteer in a Sheriffs station once a week doing some minor computer
stuff and they have a rarely HP Ink Jet printer. I run a color Test page
every other week to keep the ink from drying up. They also have a HP
Laser color unit for the Detectives to use. They do all the mug shots
with a Digital Camera and make up the "Line Ups" by printing a sheet of
"Mug Shots" from 'jpg's stored on their Computer. 
At least with the HP Ink Jet printers the jets are in the Ink Cartridge.
Let an Epson sit too long and you have a fine mess as the jets are in
part of the printer itself. Never paid much attention to Canon so don't
know about them.
