Sounds more like you are using FTP without specifying a binary transfer.
Quite a few FTP implementations default to an ASCII transfer. A 7 bit ASCII
transfer does wonders for an 8 bit binary file (which .ZIP files are). With
most ISPs, you'll be using the PPP protocol so any packets that are grunged
would be automatically retried by the protocol driver if they made it by your
modem's error correcting protocol.
