subject: Pentium 90 CPUS

RB> I recently traded two intel 90Mhz Pentium CPU's (including BUG)
RB> in on the INTEL replacement plan for two new ones.

RB> The 2 brand new ones came (in a packing the size of a monitor Box)
RB> with a moulded-on-heatsink (and fan) and a ONE YEAR clayton's WARRANTY.

LE> This warranty can be summed up in a few succinct words :

Maybe.

LE> * If the CPU fails or a bug or incompatibility is discovered,
LE> and it's more than 12 months since you bought it, tough.

Corse it remains to be seen if that actually has a legal leg to stand on.

Then there is the tiny matter that if the original cpu
had a lifetime warranty, they cant just brush you off
with a reduction of that with a replacement either.

LE> * If it's less than 12 months, still tough if you happen to live
LE> outside the USA. The costs of shipping and confirming by phone and
LE> whinging to get something done will exceed the replacement price.

Bullshit. Hardly ever on a pentium class cpu.

RB> So much for your lifetime Warranty.

LE> Used to be a lifetime warranty.

And they cant just withdraw that by fiat coz they feel
like it when replacing a cpu which had a lifetime warranty.

Let alone claim that a clear defect like that maths problem has
a 1 year limit on warrantee, whatever they write in their leaflet.
