Hola Bob :) Monday November 11 2002 01:53, Bob Short decˇa a Felipe T. Dorado: FT> BS>> The ball seems to be rolling, with Ward taking a proactive stance FT>> Great! BS> :) FT>> I forwarded the proposed amendment summary you made to our region's *Cs FT>> and SysOp's echos together with a translation to Spanish to keep our FT>> nodes informed. To give it the diffusion you suggested. BS> Thank you! I'm hoping many others will do the same for their language BS> specific areas. It does little good to create something that only a BS> few can understand. You're welcome. It's the least I could do since I could not participate in the effort as much as I'd have liked. I already mentioned something about translating the proposed changes. Carol suggested languages I'm afraid I have no skills in :( (or is it on?) We already live in a planet that does not necessarily have to speak the same language, so far. If Fido wants to really be planetary it has to take into account other cultures and not just the English speaking world, no matter how much hard work it takes. If Nodes do not get info in their own language that is in itself a handicap we impose on ourselves and that diminishes the number of people who can actually participate in discussions _and agreements_ towards updating policy. Down to earth: how about making an effort to make the proposed amendment available in as many languages as possible? That is relatively easy and straighforward enough, right? I think it would give us a more ample base of possible voters. And quora and percentages would not have mattered that much! Yes, I insist on it, allow me: that policy be translated to as many languages as posible, together with whatever amendment may come. English speakers do not seem to be aware of how many Nodes simply do not care about The Agreement, sorry, policy, _because_ they do not have the skill to read it comfortably. FT>> I asked my RC whether he had heard anything about the proposed FT>> amendment and he told me no. So I asked him to please keep an eye open FT>> for it. BS> I suggest he (and all other RC's) to contact the IC to A) let him know BS> that they are still around, and B) ask for info on the amendment. It BS> doesn't have to be crash/direct either... Yes, that I already suggested to him, and even offered to write the text for him. And seeing the evident communication problem ... (here in a mail network! ...) might I suggest to you actually sending an _informative_ netmail to each RC? If you have not done it already, of course. You have enough support to do such a thing. FT>> Do you have any news about it? BS> You may already have read the summery in The Snooze, and Ward has Ermmm, I must have missed something 'cos I haven't managed to locate the issue :( either in Fidonews or in the tics I have. Just tell me the date, please. FT>> As for this IONs listings and nodelist format upgrade discussions, I'm FT>> sorr say I'm too busy at present to be able to follow the innumerable FT>> postings i this echo, let alone those in FNSYSOP :( BS> This particular topic is not within the scope of our current proposal. BS> The debates and opinions here are (may be) a matter for future Policy BS> amendments, but more likely for future FTSC versions. I don't forsee BS> them entering Policy more than they do at present (referenced). ;-) Yeap, I understand that. It'll have to be addressed in next proposal, and as soon as possible: the great divide hovers above ... :( BS> Stay tuned to this channel... Sure thing. Thanks, Bob.
