-=> Quoting Francis Nethercott to Richard Town <=- RT> allow up to 20 different country configs selectable by an init code... FN> And wouldn't it be a "relief" for the customer's part, not to mention FN> the cuts in production costs, etc., if USRobotics will implement that FN> feature in all of their modem lines??! Can't do that! Profit's a function of costs (within what the market will stand as RRP) So more localised profit centres = more overall group profit. Justification for single country-specific modems = country specific approvals :-)) Quite what's going to happen after the EU Court's recent ruling against banning use/sale of one EAA countries' approved modem in another EAA country, I'm not sure Of course, it would be quite wrong to cynically suggest that any modem manufacturer has a vested interest in the maintenance of country specific modem approvals FN> Heck, I'd be more than willing to shell out some bucks for the FN> additional RAM or NVRAM chips required to store those *extra* configs! As a general guide, here in the UK the Zoom WorldClass BABT-approved internal is UKP159 and the cheapest seen for the US version UKP139. Both are +17.5 percent VAT Me and my WorldClass PCMCIA are quite happy when travelling -- both sides of the pond. But havn't been on a plane yet that has its 'phone available outside of 1st Class :( They probably havn't got a modem lead socket anyway... Unless someone knows better? If so, which airline? rgdZ Richard ... how does it stack up against other leading V.34 28.8 modems? --- FMail/386 0.98a* Origin: PackLink - Home of Zoom_Modem 01812972486 (2:254/235) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 115/500 623/630 635/503 544 711/410 413 430 808 809 932 SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 254/235 441/80 255/1 25/10 254/153 106/2000 396/1 3615/50 115/258 25 @PATH: 115/500 50/99 711/808 809 934 |
