Hola Carol :)

Monday November 11 2002 10:13, Carol Shenkenberger dec¡a a Felipe T. Dorado:

 CS> Sure!

Thank you :)

 CS> There is much discussion.

;) I can assure you I didn't fail to notice that one ;)

CS> Most of it is technical in how to correctly list an ION in the
CS> nodelist so that they can be contacted via IP methods.
CS> Many listings right now do not have the right information. They lack
CS> a FQDN or email address to use to match an IP type flag.

Ok.
I remember an article in the snooze talking about mailmovers. It said
something about "serious" versus "hobbists" mailmovers
and the stability and durability of either.
A dedicated POTS line was something of a convenient filter for the accuracy
of the list. Let's hope whateveer method is used now and in future
contemplates that bit, I mean, stability of the nodes. Since, ¨who nowadays
would setup a server just for Fido? ...

And, what about that paragraph in the policy about pvt nodes needing to
justify their not having a phone number to ring to? Was it not Frank Vest
who said the policy had been done away with long ago?

It appears to me that many seem to have no idea that a policy is an
_agreement_ ... This network is an agreement.

CS> The other discussions are mostly on how we might in the future,
 CS> expand the
CS> nodelist format with some new tools to generate a nodelist. That one will
CS> take time but I have a feeling might actually happen eventually. Most
CS> discussions on that have us using a dual node-stub, one traditional and
CS> one expanded then merged somehow with a tool by those who want the
 CS> extended information. xxcarol

That sounds good for the network. I hope it comes about soon and ends this
divide between pots and ions so we can work for the betterment of our
hobby.
All this talk about nodelisting ... mmmm, no-one had the nerve to found a
Fidoinet? ... No, it does not seem so. Or, is it that hard to use inet
directly and let good old Fido die in its bed in peace and quiet ... many
years in the future?

Ah, what hurry!

Thanks for the digest, Carol.
Domo arigato :) [ Hope's correct ;) ]

Felipe :)
