JH> JS> If he was so experienced, why was he flying with a suspended
JH> JS> medical. That makes him a "scoff-Law" in my opinion.
JH> JS> I can't support him either. Just thankful he killed no one
JH> JS> but himself...
JH>His medical was pulled because he had a conviction (or two or three)
JH>for drunk driving. I do not accept the FAA's reasoning because
JH>the correlation between flying drunk and driving drunk
JH>seems a bit weak. In my younger and more stupid days, I
JH>have been known to drive home from a bar stewed to the
JH>gills. I have NEVER flown after drinking. Can I be the
JH>only one?
I think not Jay. I personally see no correlation however the Friendlies
have somehow decided that there is a possibility that they may somehow
correlate. Said in other words. If your Driver's license expires and
you drive then does that mean that you forget how to drive or does it
simply mean that you have not complied with the Politically Correct
society and paid your monetary dues to society?
JH>Why was he flying with a suspended medical? Because he could. He
JH>had the money; he had the aircraft. Are you suggesting that his
JH>accident was caused by the expiration of his medical? Was
JH>there any evidence that he had any other physical
JH>disabilities that might preclude flying? I don't think so.
JH> I believe he determined (for himself) that there was no
JH>reason other than the FAA said so that he shouldn't fly.
JH>And we all obey the law, don't we? Once again, I don't
JH>think so.
I don't know just asking, was it classed as an Ultra-Lite requiring no
license or as truly Experimental and requiring a license? Some single
seaters don't and the two seaters do.
JH>Bottom line: he flew with an expired medical, which had
JH>absolutely nothing to do with the unfortunate events of
JH>that day. I do feel sorry for those he left behind.
Me too Jay and I totally agree with you. My Brother had a friend that
had a Vari-Easy and was taking off with his wife. The gas cap came
loose and subsequently came off shattering one side of the prop. It
shook itself to pieces, two fatalities. Probably could have been
prevented by securing the gas cap with safety chain and had he
recognized the problem shut the engine off immediately. The gas cap is
just in front of the prop.
JH>Jim, this is one of those deals where I doubt we'll ever
JH>agree. I have no great respect for rules that seem
JH>arbitrary, and I believe you were raised in a more black
JH>and white world than I. Let's blame my old man! :)
The Revern Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. felt the same way.
JH> JS> There are LOTS of NTSB reports that I do not believe...
JH>OTOH, here's something we both agree on.
Thanks Jay. It's nice to see some input about AVIATION. Haven't seen
any in quite some while.
