I use WP 6.0c DOS. When file size grows because of WP
quirks, I can retrieve the file into a screen containing
a hard return, delete the HRt, and save the file, just
as I did (and still do) in 5.1. Sometimes that shrinks
the file significantly; sometimes not. That method does
delete Document Initial Codes and other options which I
do not want to lose, so it is not ideal.
Recently, I added 2 graphics to a 1 meg file, and they,
being 1 meg apiece, increased the file to 3 meg. I edited
the graphics box and removed their file names, but the
file dropped only slightly with the above scheme.
However, quite by accident, when 6.0 locked up and I
was offered the option to rename the .bak file, I found
that the .bak was not only back to normal size, but it
apparently had NOT lost the Document initial Codes.
Don't know if this is a useful tool. Anyone have any
experience with this method of file cleaning and
shrinking? Care to comment?
