BL> I have no idea what your files.20 format may be, but if it creates a
BL> text file with length in that file, then it must be possible to find
BL> the entry in the original format... whatever it is that causes
BL> "archived" to appear in the output.

No, "I" just specify the name of the file and the description.
The file-list-generator finds out the size etc itself.

PE> At that point I decided to go with a "DELETE THIS FILE"
PE> description as the easiest option for me.

BL> But it's not going to get the result, is it? An *automatic* way to
BL> remove aero-length files from both your disc and the FILES list.

I want it removed from the source, which is FILES.20. I am already
removing it from the disk.

BL> At least my solution would achieve that. Your loony program that

DOWNSORT was not written by me. It is a native OS/2 program. I am happy
to replace it with your native OS/2 program that does the same thing, only
better. You just haven't sent it to me, yet.

BL> I didn't write my Pascal utility for you anyway... I did it to show
BL> you how easy and quick it is to read\write a large text file and remove
BL> lines in Pascal. In C you have to do it character-by-character, identify
BL> the key phrase, find the cr/lf and then backtrack and stuff around in
BL> general.

??? I think you need to look up fgets() and strstr(). Anyway, that's not
where I want it fixed.

PE> Also, I want it to fix up the files.20. The solution I have,
PE> although annoying, does actually cover both of those technical
PE> requirements.

BL> No it doesn't. It only works if the file sent to erase is zero
BL> length AND has the magic phrase.

Yes, which is why I documented that procedure.

BL> Give it ten minutes and no one here
BL> will ever get that phrase correct. It's worse than annoying... it just
BL> isn't going to work in practice.

Use a template, use a program, get it right, or don't put files in there.

PE> If you were to write a C program to do that, it would cover
PE> both technical requirements too. Actually, I can do the "DIR"
PE> in my cmd file, so you only need to open two text files, and
PE> either create a 3rd output file containing commands, or call
PE> system().

BL> Your problem is that you'd end up with a files.20 with the names of
BL> thousands of zero-length files that no longer exist. I also find it
BL> strange that you'd write a BAT file rather than just do it in a simple
BL> utility.

My MNTFILE.CMD? I need to call downsort, you want me to write a C program
with a system() call to do that? A C program consisting entirely of
system() calls?! I'll post files.20 here for you...
