This sounds as though your pleco could'nt aclimatise tiself to the 
conditions of the water in your tank from the tank he was from...
It's only a thought but as you said you have had it only 3 weeks it is 
likley that is the cause of death....
Before getting another Plec get your water tested just to be on the 
safe side.....
