Hi Don,
Only access to the CMOS-RAM contents is via ports 70h/71h, on AT-style
machines [vice MCA/EISA]. RTC values are stored in the CMOS-RAM, along
with all the variables selected from the [firmware{EEPROM or Flash
based}] BIOS menus, in addition to items like the shutdown status byte
etc. BIOS code is cast-in-silicon until the next EEPROM/Flash upgrade.
