Hi wendy..
Have you tried acrylic paints? I use them for tole painting, but have come 
across patterns done on paper, that also use acrylic paints..they might be to 
thick for you, but just water them down....
Put a small amount onto a pallete, them add  water, till it becomes really 
watery, and try that.
Hope this helps..oh some of the acrylic paints I use are,, 
Delta..Accent..Americana..any craft store will have them..
