RS> Yeah, well, thats one area where the whole OS/2 high speed comms is a
RS> problem. Much of that sort of stuff makes very little sense. For example
RS> you cant just rationally say 'in this circumstance buffer should be
RS> xxx'. There have even been situations where the right thing with one

 RS> beta type stuff.

Pardon? What I want to say is "in THIS circumstance (running Binkley
and using COM.SYS as the driver" I want maximum priority given to the
Binkley task. I am more worried about stuff going out that stuff coming
in, as the stuff coming in happens for 10 minutes every day at 5:45AM and
doesn't really affect anyone. I'd still like to give it maximum priority
(which it won't abuse anyway), but it's just not very important.

What buffering occurs on transmitting? My comms program (Binkley/Maximus)
may have a buffer. OS/2 probably has a buffer, the 16450 chip probably has
a buffer, and my modem has a buffer. I wonder what the different sizes of
them are, and what is optimum?

RS> The only real answer is to find someone running OS/2 Maximus/Binkley
RS> with your config, say 16450, who is getting good thruput, using the same
RS> OS/2 version and comms driver versions, and use his settings.

Hmmm, I'll have to ask in one of the echos for that.

BTW, I think I know what to do to prepack your mail, but don't want to do
it until things start settling down. I could pack the mail after receiving
the daily lot from Dave. However, I seriously think you should become a
point, and I can strip the number of SEENBY's down to 2. It should look
SEEN-BY 711/809 934. That is a lot less that most taglines, which no-one
seems to mind. Doing QWK packing is going to be fairly dirty, (it's one of
these blind things like a batch file [Predicate Calculus], whereas a point
is well organized). A lot of setting up is required, but once it's up it's
up. This is a long-term thing after all. You get the ability to FREQ when
you do it as well.

BFN.
