RS> Yeah, I think thats likely best, just pack up my QWK after the mail
RS> tossing from Dave. Or do my QWK at say 7:20 or something.
I think 7:20am would be best. I still don't know how to tell whether I am
tossing mail from Dave or a point!
PE>> However, I seriously think you should become a point, and I can strip
PE>> the number of SEENBY's down to 2. It should look SEEN+BY 711/809 934.
PE>> That is a lot less that most taglines, which no-one seems to mind.
RS> The size of the bundle is only part of the problem. The other problem
RS> is that at my end the whole user interface story is much worse as a
RS> point than an OLR. Particularly as the new OLX 3.x is an order of
RS> magnitude more convenient and elegant than even OLX 2.x was.
If you run Frontdoor and Fmail, then you will have a Hudson messagebase.
You can then set up the basics of Remote Access, but you never need to use
it. You can use mkqwk to pack your mail bundle for you. You can use QWK
for the rest of your life. You can make mkqwk pack your mail automatically
too. You need to use Remote Access to create a userid though.
PE>> Doing QWK packing is going to be fairly dirty, (it's one of these
PE>> blind things like a batch file [Predicate Calculus], whereas a point
PE>> is well organized). A lot of setting up is required, but once it's up
PE>> it's up.
RS> OK, I thought you meant that Maximus now had the capability to
RS> essentially just do what I do with a D command in the door, but do it
RS> in advance of my call. I assumed you would just setup an event,
RS> specify the user and the time. I wouldnt worry about it for now if its
RS> much more work than that.
Basically what it does is you give it a string, including your name and
password and it creates the QWK packet and puts it into a file. I can then
copy that file into a files directory, which you have access to. Then you
can download that file.
PE>> This is a long-term thing after all. You get the ability to FREQ when
PE>> you do it as well.
RS> I am planning to setup for FREQs anyway, but thats a different issue.
RS> The fundamental problem with pointing from my point of view is the
RS> degradation in the user interface area at my end.
Easily circumventable by an automation freak like yourself. Your QWK
session is unintelligent. A mail session isn't. Less things to go wrong
on my end to (like Personal.ndx, maximus causing a trap e like this
morning). BFN.
