Oh boy! I hope I have not lept in with both feet in mouth :-). I read
this news either in the Linux Echo OR in the docs for some recent
Linux software releases. I should have captured the info before
issueing this message, but did not. I issued this message strictly
on my recall of having read about the HPFS "difference" in what I
am sure was an authoritative source. It is slimly possible that
the difference hails NOT in the HPFS, but in some of the newly
released Linux software. HOWEVER, that is not the impression that I
recall.
My sole intent was to merely alert
those of us that share interest in both os' to the potential for
sudden and severe catastrophe of NOT being able to "see" the OS/2
HPFS side (partition) of you system if you were to upgrade to the
new Warp v3.0.
As I see it now this information perhaps needs
to be examined in far greater depth BUT there should still be
some caution in jumping into the Warp v3.0 upgrade -OR- in upgrading
your Linux software if you do run Linux and OS/2 side by side, with
the presumption that you will be able to see the OS/2 side from Linux.
This, of course, has no effect on anyone that is NOT running Linux.
If in fact there have been some long awaited changes (improvements)
in the OS/2 HPFS, then kudos go to IBM.
Regards,
Alfred Dayton
