WinSCP has some good scripting functions.  In another life I used WinSCP to download some label files from one of our transportation partners.  When a label file appeared in a certain directory another program sprang to life and printed it automatically on one of our label printers.

Previous to that the guys back in logistics had to manually download those files and print them.
