Someone help me out here. I'm listening to sports radio and a lot of people
are ripping Bobby Cox for bringing in Wohlers in the 8th inning instead of
Brad Clontz.
What am I missing here? Does anyone dispute the notion that Wohlers is by
far the Braves' best reliever? If not, then how can you blame the manager
for bringing in your best reliever, when that best reliever fails to do the
job?
If the Braves win that game, the series is virtually over. So you bring in
the guy with the 0.00 postseason ERA and five postseason saves to slam the
door and get the final six outs. He fails, so the manager screwed up for
bringing him in?
I could somewhat understand criticism if he would have blown the lead in the
9th. Then you could say he ran out of gas and shouldn't have pitched two
innings. But how can you justify blaming the manager when he blows the lead
in the first inning he pitches?
I just don't get it.
