Recoding (plus scaling) MPEG2 to MPEG4 video on a K6-2 450 MHz, which was a
twelve hour job for a two hour movie. That kind of scripted video
processing was quite doable. Anything interactive was mostly out of the
question, at least as far as Linux programs went.

It's not that CPU intensive as far as I can tell. 3-5% CPU load on this
1.3GHz system. Systems feels very slow due to the hard drive having a lot
to do.
