To tell you the truth, I don't think anyone has figure out why they are 
there. 
Some say its a lack of vitamins, etc. There has been mention of it in some 
books on Greys. Just recently I became aware that it also showed up in the 
Timnehs.
As to whether it disappers with age, maybe, maybe not. sorry to be so vague.
Bit the red feathering I think has most of us going...daahhhh.
