Same Frenchman discovered the active ingredient in both the grape seeds and 
pine bark.  Originally, the French explorers found out about the pine bark 
from the Indians they encountered.
The grape seed has one more flavinoid than the pine bark does and since it 
doesn't have the same patent, is cheaper than pycnogenol is.
