Well, since I don't see it that way, perhaps you could elaborate...why do
you feel they are smarter now?
 RJ> I really

Is this something that some owners have been saying publicly that I have
missed, or are you reading between the lines? I get no such feeling from
the current Marge Schott controversy, for example. There's been no owners
making statements about having a strong commissioner to crack down on
this, that I have seen. Other people have been calling for that, but not
any of the owners. And what movement towards getting a strong commissioner
has there been since the players' and umpires' strikes?
RJ> At least, I *hope* this is how it shakes out.
RJ> My personal choice for the office would be Bob Costas, one who truly
 RJ> loves the great game.
I like Bob Costas, and there's no doubt he loves baseball, but I don't
think he has the experience in dealing with diverse interests and making
decisions. In that mode, I would prefer either George Bush or Mario Cuomo
over Costas. Now if you are either a conservative or a liberal, you'd
probably oppose one or the other of those names, but I feel both have the
necessary background of making decisions to balance competing interests
taht a commissioner must have. And I feel your current political
orientation has nothing to do with whether or not Cuomo or Bush would make
a good commissioner. (In other words, if you want to argue politics,
don't bother, its not relevant IMHO to whether or not they'd make a good
commissioner).
... After dinner, he said, "Your modem or mine?"
