 Most of the "disadvantages" to iostreams are implentation dependant.
 For example, iostream i/o takes more code space and takes more
 execution time vs  output.  But there's no intrinsic reason why
 that _has_ to be!
 As for why to use iostreams, they do have "better" notation/syntax.  It
 meshes better with object oriented code.
