Having had the same problems in the past, I've found the OPTi 82C861
"FireLink" to be a solution. That's an old USB/OHCI chip, marketed
through Chinese manufacturers as a two-port PCI card. Worth checking if
USB v 1.x is enough for one's particular hardware.
