CSS check fails completely! So the page displays something wrong.

W3C check fails too, so any browser does what it likes but never what 
it should.

Having errors in HTML means letting the browser do what it likes not 
what it should. There are too many errors in the source, so no wounder 
that there is nothing visible except the background.
