| subject: | nodelist lookup from command line |
Hi! Richard, On 21 Oct 07 16:24, I wrote to you: PQ> 'drawing board'. After 10 minutes I discovered that my using a PQ> temporary 'zone' file idea just won't work, as some smarties have PQ> file-redirection symbols in their nodelistings (i.e., '' PQ> characters). I finally got around that with a general 'replace' tool (posted in Batpower by Bat Lang about 10 years ago, in fact); 2 replace sweeps through the nodelist (which are quite fast) and they're gone! So, the final code will incorporate making a copy of the supplied nodelist file and using that, so that when the replacements are made the temporary nodelist file and any other temporarys can be deleted willy-nilly. PQ> I'll start work on NLSS.Bat ver 1.01.01 probably Tuesday. :) I'm up to 1.02.04 with quite a bit of work to go on it. I found a glitch of some sort with NSET when the line counter exceeds #767, i.e. anything like "NSET /L768 =$0 < nodelist.299" (or a higher /L[value]) just turns up a blank line. Quite strange. I'd be interested to hear from any other NSET user if they can replicate that error... or not. :-) Also, I've ended-up using the Zone 1 version of the nodelist (thanks to a FREQ to Z1C) for input as any other zone's copy won't work for a straightforward _increment_ function on zones. Recall that other zones have their own zone listed first, prior to any others. E.g., a Zone 2 version nodelist would have the zones listed in 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 order. That's why most of my early trials just produced crap errors till I twigged to the notion. So, most important: whatever the result of my whoosimajiggering on this will only be good when using a Zone 1 format nodelist. (Don't promise anything to any mates you have in Brasil. ;-) I've also re-discovered another tool which kind of replaces NSET, called LMOD. It's quite nifty, and has made writing the temporary zone file just so easy, and, FAST! Thus far, NLSS.bat version 1.02.04 makes a -very- sweet Fidonet zone extractor. =:) More work to be done yet, probably tomorrow... Cheers, Paul. ... Warning! High level radiation detected!
