 RS> runs a 14.4K Spirit II modem!

RS> wanted a file of fax commands I had and suggested I upload it to his

RS> Precisely the same symptoms I get with you, poor initial connect

RS> I did to see what would happen. V42bis 14K.

Aha, the plot thickens. And 633 looks like Melbourne. But hang on, did
you upload it to him, or did he send it to you? Hopefully you were
downloading something from him when it happened. I guess that was the
case, you did say RXD.

RS> Seems pretty conclusively a Spirit problem since I dont see that
RS> behaviour with any other modem and the MR blinking and poor thruput was
RS> such a problem on Aust_Modems with generally other than Supras on the
RS> other end of the call.

A problem with ALL spirits? Unlikely, it would have been publicized in one
of the modem conferences. It virtually has to be your end.

RS> Come to think of it I think you said that you were getting poor thruput
RS> at times with the other Paul in Sydney when uploading to him. Given the
RS> fact that I sometimes get good calls with you, seems pretty conclusive.

I was getting Zmodem errors too. Since changing COM port I haven't had any
problems at all. Not a sausage. I think I had an RTS/CTS problem.

RS> At one stage the idea that you didnt have any problem with uploads
RS> indicated something important, but thats to Spirits. It wouldnt be
RS> surprising if they had tested that better than to other modems.

Have modem, will travel. Tell me a board to upload something to, and I'll
tell you what happens. Who is this Michael Bishop guy? Don't you know of
anyone with one of your modems? Or what about non-Spirit. Michael Butler
has a Worldblazer I believe, I'll try sending him a file. Michael Bishop
is nodelisted, but only with V32. So what do you think is a fair test that
would eliminate my modem? You are quick to eliminate your modem because
you can connect to SOME non-Spirits. I think your testing with V42 has not
been great. Ok, one upload to Michael should be interesting! BFN.
