The problem with this goes back to what I said early in the thread,
though in other words: IBM is married to Intel. Support in OS/2 for AMD
is mostly accidental. If you want maxiumum support from IBM for your
OS/2 system, only an Intel chipset should be considered, and Intel makes
no chipsets that support non-Intel processors.

OS/2 users are not latest, greatest 3D game players. They don't need the
nth degree of HP to get the job done.

Performance from anything above 1 GHz is so high that mere mortal users
won't see the difference between Intel systems in the 2.x+ range or AMD
systems in the 1.5 GHz+ range. Everything is badly I/O constrained. Seen
in this context, the cheapest Celeron is more than good enough, and a
better bet than anything sporting a non-Intel chipset. The $100 minimum
difference between a Celeron & a P4 is pointlessly spent unless your ego
can't handle anything less than maximum.

OTOH, the $30 or so difference between the cheapest Duron & the cheapest
Celeron is a poor gamble against the time wasted trying to configure the
unconfigurable due to a non-Intel chipset that simply doesn't work in
OS/2. To be sure, this is not something to expect, but it is a
significant risk, and you don't want it happening to you. I'm not doing
it any more, and least until I see an official statement from Scott G or
someone else in authority at IBM that support for anything else is
equivalent to support for Intel.
