Hi, Matt. -=> on 02-27-05 03:32, MATT MC_CARTHY wrote to JEAN PARROT <=- MM>> Oh yes, Windows DOES do that! :-(( If it fails to see the drive MM>> for any reason, it believes there is no data to be careful of and MM>> starts the installation with FDISK. If the drive is not FDISK'd, how can Windows be MM> installed? Just for clarity, and since Wayne seems to have a bit of a hangup about the OEM issue - - are you referring to the "generic-standard" OEM version as distributed to businesses such as the "Dealer" you work(ed?) for, as well as the Vendor-specific OEM discs (possibly customized), like the HP- labeled one which Wayne apparently has? One thing about this FDISK situation keeps bothering me - - based on what Wayne wrote in the Win95 echo, he first tried to install Win98FE, and apparently FDISK did not run, and the installation went OK to a point, but he says it failed for lack of a driver. On his next attempt to install, he says FDISK ran without permission. Seems clear to me that something changed in between those two attempts. The question is - - what? One other question about FDISK running un-authorized - do you know if it will sometimes do that when running Win98 SETUP direct from HDD, after copying over the contents of the WIN98 directory from the CDROM disc? - - - JimH. ...
