I'd assumed he had, but as mail packets are seen no differently from any
other archive, I was looking at something with the config.

Yeah, it's almost certain to be something like that, and I'd even be
inclined to repack the archive in an uncompressed zip file (for ease of
transfer), and see how that went.  My bet is that it'd work fine.
