Subject: National convention shuttle service duplicated at Amway Function
Well hello Fellow Federationists and listers,
As many of you know last fall we began working with the Amway
corporation and some of it's Distributor Organizations in an effort to raist
awareness of the needs of blind Amway distributors in several areas. In
addition to the matter of getting accessible sales and training information
we also mentioned some of the transportation difficulties faced by blind
amway distributors including thos transportation needs that arise during
distributor functions. this past weekend our particular organization held a
major function in Dallas, and several of us attended. A few months ago I
sent a voicemail message to our direct distributor concerning the idea of
operating a shuttle service between the hotels we were using for the
function, and the function facility itself. I explained how we operated the
shuttle service we use at our national conventions to help convention
attendies get from one convention facility to another when multiple
facilities are used. I heard nothing more from up line, but when I got to
our hotel I inquired at the desk if any kind of shuttle service was being
operated between the hotels and the Bronco Bowl where our meetings were
being held. to my delight I was informed that such a service was being
operated by a transportation committee connected with our group, and that
this transportation would be available for anyone needing it. Later i
learned that our up line diamond direct Distributors had told the
transportation folks that we were to be given this service when ever we
needed it. And believe you me it saved us a bundle in cab fare. They drove
us tooo, and from the meeting facility and they also took us back to the
Greyhound Station in Dallas when we left on Sunday, but that's another
orry.
On Saturday evening we had the opportunity to thank our Diamonds for
making this ervice available for persons needing it such as ourselves, and
that they should encourage all other Distributor organizations to offer a
similar service when they put on functions like this one. and since we are
a part of the Yeager Organization those are no small gatherings. We're
talking about five to ten thousand people in attendence at these events.
And those who have attended Yeager-sponsored events know that they can last
until the wee hours of the mornin, and who wants to be out walking the
streets of a strange city, in a bad neighborhood, and have to contend with
parking hastles. We gave those as justification for operating a shuttle
service for these events. We were very happy that this was done, and urged
our up lind Diamonds to continue doing this at future events. We had the
opportunity to thank them prsonally last Saturday evening.
And as for that ride back to the Greyhound Station they really
pulled out the stops on that one. While they drove us around in vans during
the weekend they took us back to the bus station in a Cadalac Limozeen
driven by a genuine chufer. the chufer told us that this was the vehicle
used to transport the guest speakers during the weekend. he also helped us
get our baggage in to the station and waited with us until it was time to
get our bus back to San Antonio. It was grattifying to see that some of
this awareness raising is starting to pay off around the World of Amway, and
we will continue to address issues of condern to Blind Amway Distributors in
the year to come. Take care and have a great evening.
