Didn't have to. Tried later, didn't make a difference. Without any command line switches, Danis506 reported UltraDMA 5. When I changed to the 40 wire, the bios reported so at bootup, so this VIA chipset definitely checks and IDs the 80 wire connector on both IDE channels correctly.
