| subject: | New to BT from FD |

That's the same place I was about a year and a half ago. Good choice - the mailer is running (and taking resources) 24 hours a day, you want to have the lowest draw on your system so you can use it, too. I ran BT-DOS for a time while I switched my software over to OS/2, and was amazed at the zippiness of my system when I had Binkley-2 running instead. GK> So, is there anyone out there who can give me some ideas as to the GK> similarities and differences between FD and BT? There are many GK> differences. Welcome to the world of static mailers. In my case, I don't think I ever got FD to route correctly. Once I switched to Binkley, and allowed Squish to perform routing, things worked well. (With an Arcmailattach mailer like FD, it felt "wrong" having both programs be able to route, then telling one program not to...) GK> Does BT have a file similar to the Route.FD file? What do you use GK> to compile the nodelist? BT is JUST a mailer. All routing is handled by your packer, in my case, Squish. There is no Binkley equivalent to route.fd. The good news is that you're probably quite familiar with your packer, so adding routing shouldn't be too much of a chore. The Binkley docs do a pretty good job of defining the difference between static routing and dynamic, Arcmailattach routing, I believe. Any Version7 nodelist compiler should work, DOS or OS/2. There's Qnode, Xlaxnode, Fastv7, Fastlist, and many more. GK> This is a good move, right? And the price is right.... :-) I never looked back from dumping FD - I felt like the freeware wold was being corralled into the shareware version - any time I had any question about 2.02nc, the response would be "You should upgrade to (and register) 2.12 - it's so much cooler!" This is a hobby for me, so expenses are hard to justify. Once MAJOR plus for Binkley- the people in this echo really define the term USER-SUPPORTED software - the people here are very helpful, and VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE in the software - some of the people here have taken the source code and released their own revisions! I can't think of one problem I've posted about in this echo that I haven't gotten an answer QUICKLY here. --- timEd 1.10+* Origin: realitycheckBBS - San Francisco, CA +1 415 666 0339 (1:161/418) SEEN-BY: 50/99 157/534 620/243 622/419 623/630 625/100 626/660 665 667 668 SEEN-BY: 626/670 633/2 640/820 711/401 409 410 413 416 430 501 808 809 934 SEEN-BY: 711/955 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 @PATH: 161/418 84 55 270/101 396/1 157/110 534 626/660 711/401 808 934 |
