| subject: | VLB Video card wanted |
Hamish, at 21:40 on Jul 20 1995, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... DP> Preferably with Cirrus 5428 chipset. HM> The 5429 (later model) is available in Melbourne for $93 ex tax BG> Any idea what the main differences are, Hamish? HM> Does it matter, it's a new version!! :-) So is Win95 compared with Win31. Does that mean it's better though? :) HM> Not sure sorry. I have a 5429 card and it seems to work quite well. Just curious, as I am extremely happy with my VLB CL5428 under OS/2. The earlier Cirrus cards weren't too good, but these current ones are superb. HM> BTW, I've heard that CL only produce chipsets, and any cards labelled as HM> Cirrus Logic video cards are in fact made by someone else, just using the HM> CL chipset. I've heard of the 5428 referred to as a chipset, but not the HM> 5429. Any ideas? Not really, but I wouldn't doubt it. All of the Cirrus cards I've seen have been branded with various obscure Asian names, so it seems likely that Cirrus merely OEM their chipsets to these manufacturers. Just a guess though.
